Appleby Blue

21st century almshouses setting a new benchmark for affordable sheltered living in London.

Working in collaboration with JTRE London and United St Saviour’s Charity, Appleby Blue is becoming a reality. Set within the fabric of Bermondsey, the vision of this 21st century almshouse sets a new benchmark for affordable sheltered living. Building a community is at the heart of this scheme providing much needed high quality and affordable self-contained living. This scheme highlights the importance of creating places through considered design, that allow urban communities to flourish.

At the centre piece of this scheme is a central garden courtyard that offers the residents and visitors an oasis to enjoy, that allows them to interact with nature, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The gardens also extend into an urban allotment that allows the community to grow vegetables which can be cooked on site as part of the community kitchen.
